Creating and Formatting Charts in Microsoft® Excel 2003 is a four-lesson basic level course that guides you through creating and formatting charts in Excel using step-by-step hands-on activities.

In Lesson 1, you will review the elements in an existing chart. Then you will create two charts: a column chart on a chart sheet and an embedded pie chart on a worksheet. Next, you will reposition and resize the embedded chart and then preview and print both charts.

In Lessons 2-4, you will learn how to change the location of a chart and change the chart type and sub-type of a chart.

You will also learn how to select chart objects, such as chart titles, data markers, data series, axes, legends, data labels, plot areas, and gridlines, and then format the objects to make the charts more attractive and easier to read. In addition to basic column and pie charts, you will create line, pie of pie, bar of pie, and other common chart types.

Finally, you will learn how to share Excel charts by pasting them in Microsoft® Word documents or PowerPoint slides as picture, embedded, or linked objects. Along the way, you will learn many tips and tricks to help you create and format Excel charts.

No prior knowledge of the Excel charting tools is necessary; however, you should be familiar with basic Excel features and be able to:

• start and close the Excel software

• open, save, and close Excel workbooks

• enter, edit, format, and select data on Excel worksheets

• use Excel menus, toolbars, shortcut menus, and keyboard shortcuts to perform tasks

• use the mouse to point to, click, double-click, right-click, and drag items on your computer’s screen

• use the keyboard and its numeric keypad to enter text or numbers

• use basic Windows operating system features, such as the Windows taskbar and dialog boxes

Important: The sample files used in this course require that you have Excel 2002 or 2003. In addition Lesson 4 makes use of Word and PowerPoint. While not strictly required to complete the course, it is recommended that you have Word and PowerPoint Software installed on your system.
