Checking for Formula Errors in Microsoft® Excel 2003 is a one-lesson intermediate level course that guides you through identifying and correcting errors in basic and complex formulas in Excel 2003 using step-by-step hands-on activities.

First, you will learn how to view formulas in their cells instead of the formulas’ results by switching to Formula Auditing Mode and how to use the AutoCalculate tool verify a simple formula using common functions, such as the SUM function. Next, you will learn how to identify worksheet and formula errors using a number of Excel tools: the Error Checking tool, the Formula Auditing toolbar, the Circular Reference toolbar, color-coded cell borders, the Evaluate Formula dialog box, and the Watch Window toolbar.

Then you will learn how to display the active workbook in multiple windows, compare two workbooks side by side, and split a single worksheet into multiple viewing panes. Finally, you will learn how to protect and unprotect worksheet cells and hide formulas.

To successfully complete this course you should be familiar with basic Excel features and be able to:

• start and close the Excel software

• open, save, and close Excel workbooks

• enter, edit, format, and select data on Excel worksheets

• use Excel menus, toolbars, shortcut menus, and keyboard shortcuts to perform tasks

• create basic Excel formulas using common functions, such as SUM

• create complex Excel formulas using nested IF functions

• create 3-D Excel formulas that link worksheets and workbooks

• use the mouse to point to, click, double-click, right-click, and drag items on your computer’s screen

• use the keyboard and its numeric keypad to enter text or numbers

• use basic Windows operating system features, such as the Windows taskbar and dialog boxes

Important: The sample files used in this course require that you have Excel 2002 or 2003 installed on your system.
